Horace Preston Schmidt, Jr.

Horace Preston Schmidt, Jr. passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Friday, April 29, 2022. He was 68. Born in Philadelphia, son of the late Horace Sr. and Mary (nee McAuley), he was a lifelong Bristol Borough resident. Horace was a graduate of Bristol High School, Class of 1971, and was the owner of Schmidt's Flowers for the past 44 years, a family business established in 1895. He was a member of Bristol Rotary Club and Mill Street Business Association, and was a past president. Horace was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church, where he served as a Rector's Warden and Eucharistic Minister for many years. Horace loved all things Bristol. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and a Phillies season ticket holder. Horace enjoyed classical music, going to the orchestra, reading, watching the Delaware River from his home, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Betsy Lou (nee Butterfield) Schmidt, his sons Erik C. Schmidt and his wife Haley, and Karl C. Schmidt and his wife Heather, and 2 grandchildren, Mason C. Schmidt and Evelyn Lily Schmidt. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Debbie Colmyer and her husband Douglas, and Claire Mead and her husband Robert, along with many other family and friends.

All friends and family are invited to visit and pay respects on Thursday, May 5, 2022 9 -11:00 am at the Wade Funeral Home, 1002 Radcliffe Street, Bristol. All are welcome to continue on to his Funeral Liturgy immediately following visitation on Thursday at 11:30 am at St. James Episcopal Church, 225 Walnut Street, Bristol. Interment will be at St. James Cemetery. Parking is limited at St. James so walking is encouraged (if able) from Wade Funeral Home. Donations can be made to St. James Church, at the above address.
