Sarah E. Carter
Sarah E. Carter passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was 99 years old.
Born in Bristol, daughter of the late Francis G. and Katherine L. Ellis, she was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. Mrs. Carter was the Valedictorian and recipient of the Joseph R. Grundy Medal for Outstanding Academic Achievement at Bristol High School, Class of 1940 and a graduate of Temple University, Class of 1946.
She had a long career teaching in Morrisville, Bristol Township and Bristol Borough School Districts. Mrs. Carter was a woman of strong religious faith and a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Bristol, where she was the first female president of the Board of Trustees, sang in the choir, was a member of the United Methodist Women and served the church in many capacities.
Also, she was a founding member of the Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation and devoted to preserving and promoting the history of Bristol Borough. She was a volunteer with the Interfaith Housing Development Corporation of Bucks County and the nonprofit Aid for Friends (now Caring for Friends). Mrs. Carter also enjoyed singing with the Trenton Choral Society.
Predeceased by her husband of 40 years, Morris W. "Bud" Carter, and her son, Jonathan F. Carter (Ann), she is survived by her children, Morris E. "Bud" Carter and his wife, April, and Sarah K. Carter and her husband, Thomas. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Kelly Steier (Nick), Kristin Carter, Thomas Carter (Lauren), Caitlin Bley (Daniel), Leigh Ann Carter and her great-grandchildren, Braelin, Camden, Carter, Kaia, Mason and Daniel along with several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Katherine Smoyer, Elizabeth Pecoraro, John Ellis and William Ellis.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Services on Monday, November 15, 2021, at First United Methodist Church of Bristol. Friends may call 10-11:30am at the Church with a memorial service to follow. Internment will be private. Masks are required in Church.
