Robert Engber shared a photo and condolence

It's a tribute to our parents' very close friendship for over six decades that Philip and I managed to be friends for what turned out to be a literal LIFETIME. I could reflect on the time that Philip and I were probably around 7 or 8 years old, living in "Arverne" at 5415 Beach Channel Drive in Far Rockaway, NY. We lived in the same apartment units above and below each other; the Engbers in Apt. 2E and the Kaplan's in Apt 3E. Philip and I were sleeping over in the living room of the Kaplan's apartment and the parents were going to be downstairs at the Engber's and check on us. When they left, we were on the opened open-up "Castro Convertible" couch watching wrestling on TV. We started beating the crap out of each other with pillows, standing on the open-up couch, knocking each other off. We made so much noise that all the parents came back after several minutes. We heard them coming and before they unlocked the door and came in, we took our places and acted as if nothing happened and swore to it. It was, obviously, a memorable pillow fight that always stuck with me. ...Or, I could tell you about the time that we were caught looking at Howie Kaplan's Playboy Magazines, but I'll save that. I'm going to miss Philip being in my life, because he's always been. I know he was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. - Rob
