Mary Elizabeth Smith
February 20, 1951 - July 29, 2024
Mary Elizabeth Smith (nee McGinley) died peacefully in her sleep on July 29, 2024. She was 73. Born in Danville, Pa, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (nee Larkin) McGinley, she was a Bristol resident for most of her life.
Wife of the late Richard Alan Smith, she is survived by her children, Jeffrey Smith, Valerie Smith Chavarria and her husband, Cisco, and Kevin Smith and his wife, Katie. She is the cherished grandmother of Rick and Joseph Chavarria, and Dylan, Jack and Cora Smith, and was the devoted sister of Judi McGinley. She was preceded in death by her sister, Anne Nelson, and her brother-in-law, Jack Hornor.
Mary graduated from St. Mark Elementary School and Bishop Conwell High School and was employed as a Data Analyst, Medical Services Department at New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company, retiring after 30 years. She was a dedicated member of St. Mark Church since her childhood. She enjoyed reading and keeping up with current best sellers and was recently working her way thru the top 100 Books of All Time. She enjoyed planning trips with her family and working on needlepoint projects to give to her family and friends. Mary was also loyal in celebrating family events with specials cards, flowers and big family gatherings and never missed a birthday or special occasion.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Tuesday, August 6, 2024, 11:00am at St. Mark Church in Bristol Borough. Friends may call 9:30-10:45am at the Church. Interment will follow at St. Mark Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark School, 1024 Radcliffe Street, Bristol, PA 19007. Arrangements are under the direction Wade Funeral Home, Bristol Borough.

I had the absolute gift of working with Mary for over 15 years, until we both retired same day. We left the building arm in arm, a little apprehensive, a little sad, but with a lot of optimism and gratitude. She was so much more than a co-worker to me. She was a soul-friend. Her attention to detail, tenacity at fixing problems, and desire to do things the right way were legendary, but above all was her love for her family. I will miss her beyond words, and my deepest sympathies go out to her entire family.
