Joseph W. O'Brien

Joseph W. O'Brien passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022. He was 94. Born and raised in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, son of the late James and Katherine O'Brien, he was an original Levittown homeowner and a member of Immaculate Conception Parish. He has been a Yardley resident for the past 26 years. Mr. O'Brien was a graduate of Dobbins Vocational Technical School, Class of 1945 and then went on the serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a field representative for the IUE AFL-CIO, District 1, Jenkintown and was employed for many years at Honeywell, Fort Washington. Mr. O'Brien was very active at the Belfield Athletic Center in Germantown, where he made many lifelong friends. He attended over 50 years of retreats at the Men of Malvern. He coached Little League Baseball, taking an All-Star team from Levittown International to the State Championship in Latrobe, Pa in 1963. Mr. O'Brien was an avid golfer and attended every sporting event played by his children and grandchildren.

Predeceased by his wife, Bernice (nee Dean) O'Brien, he is survived by his 4 daughters, Kathleen Skinner (William), Joanne McLaughlin (Thomas), Colleen Darby, and Patricia Warren (Lawrence), with whom he resided. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, Shannon Cephas, Thomas McLaughlin, Lauren Skinner-Shannon, Brian McLaughlin, Kevin Darby, Eileen Campbell and Joseph, Michael and Christopher Warren and his 9 great-grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his 4 brothers, James, John, Francis and William.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Committal Service with military honors on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, 9:30am at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. Please arrive at Cemetery by 9:15am. Following the Committal, a Memorial Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Church, 999 Reading Ave., Yardley, Pa. at 11:30am. Friends may call 10:30-11:30am at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Alzheimer's Association, alz.org/delval. Arrangements are under the direction of Wade Funeral Home, Bristol Borough.
