Joanne Castor Etersque

Joanne Castor Etersque, 79, of Augusta, widow of Stanley “Gus” Etersque, passed away peacefully, on Monday June 19, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 19, 1943 in Bristol, PA, a daughter of the late Vincent and Jennie Commare Castor. Joanne had an adventurous life and celebrated it to the fullest. She moved to Georgia in the late 90s and became a member of the CCI-Congregation Children of Israel with Gus, led by Rabbi Shai. She was a spirited member of the Italian American Club, where she enjoyed dancing and many close friendships as well as great food. She traveled to Italy with the group. She supported and participated in close social groups including the Red Hat ladies club, the Elks Club, as well as her bunco club and loved attending plays and operas with friends.

Joanne is survived by her daughter, Michele Fork; stepchildren, Andrea Etersque Baerwalde and Mike Etersque (Frank); grandchildren, Carson Castellani, Ryan, Ian and Ashlyn Baerwalde, brother Vincent Castor (Colette), sister Maria Faight (Bob), sister Kathleen Thompson (Scott), brother Ronald Castor (Connie), sister Annette Castor (Kevin) brother Christopher Makai (Christine), and several nieces (Alisa to Marissa) as well as nephews, cousins and dear friends including Shirley Estelle.

We would like to thank the Crescent Hospice care team including Janelle, Cheryl, Jay, Gabbie, Asia, Sarah, Samantha, Torie, Julie and Patricia for their wonderful support.

A funeral was held on Friday, June 23, 2023 in Martinez, Georgia. Interment took place at Westover Memorial Park.
