Jerome M. Barner

February 10, 1928 - January 14, 2024

Jerome M. "Jerry" Barner passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at Tidewell Hospice of Lakewood Ranch in Bradenton, Florida. He was 95. Born in Philadelphia, son of the late Walter A. and Helen (nee Siler) Barner. Jerry was raised in Croydon, and moved to Edgely, Bristol Township in 1953, until moving to Bristol in 2001, where he resided for 10 years prior to moving to Florida in 2011.  Jerry graduated from Northeast Catholic High School in 1946, and went to work for Cuneo Eastern Press in Philadelphia, where he was employed as journeyman printer, until 1972, when Jerry started his own home remodeling business, which he successfully ran for over 20 years before retiring. He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1948 to 1952. Jerry was active as a volunteer firefighter, first with the Croydon Fire Company, then with the Edgely Fire Company, where he held many positions as an officer and chief, as well as being president during crucial years of the development and expansion of the fire company. His long, and faithful service earned him recognition as an Honorary Life Member of the Edgely Fire Company. He was also a longtime active member of St. Mark Church in Bristol, where he volunteered many hours in many different roles.

Jerry was husband of the late Margaret "Peg" Barner, and he is survived by his wife, Catherine Barner, of Bradenton, FL,  his son, Jerome Barner, and his wife Deborah of East Lyme, CT, grandchildren, Allison of Portland, ME, Jerome Colin, of Port Townsend, WA, Hannah, of East Lyme, and step-son John Hinton and his wife Leslie, of Bradenton, FL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews! Jerry was pre-deceased by his parents, Walter and Helen, brothers Walter, Joseph, Carl, and John (Jack), and sister Ann. The family would like to thank Tidwell Hospice for their kind and compassionate care, as well as John and Leslie Hinton.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Graveside Service on Monday, January 29, 2024, 11AM at St. Mark Cemetery, Bristol.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tidewell Hospice, Bradenton, FL or the Edgely Fire Company, 1200 Edgely Rd, Levittown, PA 19057.
