James Richard Currie

James Richard Currie, 1935-2022

James Richard Currie, a lifelong engineer and father of six, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2022 at Oxford Crossings, Langhorne, PA. He was 87.

Born in Amsterdam, NY, Jim was the son of the late W. James Currie and Justina (nee Gotobed) Currie. As the oldest of six, growing up during the World War II era, he set an example for his siblings in the war effort by collecting scrap paper and donating his used toys for scrap metal. In addition, he served in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War.

Jim was a 1953 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School in Amsterdam, where he was a National Merit Scholar. Jim received his Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Chemical Engineering from Lafayette College in 1957.

Upon graduation, Jim accepted the position of Process Engineer with Rohm & Haas Co., where he not only worked through his retirement in 1999, but also met his late wife, Carol. Jim was a key contributor to establishing chemical processing plants in Texas and Kentucky, but because his growing family was so important to him, he would bring them with him to those states for months at a time. Later in his tenure, he managed the Standards and Quality Assurance Department, where he developed standard design modules that were adopted by Rohm & Haas Co. and later by Dow Chemical.

In his free time, Jim enjoyed working in his yard, solving puzzles of all types and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed all events and activities of his children and grandchildren. Jim was an active member of Faith Baptist Church where he served for many years as Treasurer and as a singer in its choir. In 2021, after having lived in Bristol for 64 years as a loyal resident and caring neighbor, Jim moved to Oxford Crossings, a senior living residence in Langhorne.

Jim was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Carol (nee Christiansen); two sisters, Eleanor Lynn Currie and Christine Beth Rannie Grimbol; and his brother, David George Currie. He is survived by his children, James Currie (Barbara) of Langhorne, PA; Richard Currie (Denise) of Sicklerville, NJ; Catherine Rosta (Joseph) of Fallsington, PA; Keith Currie (Grace) of Cherry Hill, NJ; Laura Stenger (Rick Stein) of Bristol, PA; and Daniel Currie (Lisa) of Royersford, PA. Jim is also survived by a sister, Susan Currie of Paoli, PA; a brother, Tom Currie (Sally) of Westerville, OH; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Saturday, January 7, 2023, 10:30am, at Faith Baptist Church, 1515 Wistar Road, Fairless Hills, PA. The Interment will be held at Bristol Cemetery.
