Evangeline Faye Summers-Lewis

Her Life Story

Evangeline Faye Summers-Lewis was born on May 27, 1963, to Leroy Summers and Earline Robinson in Mullins, South Carolina.  She was the fourth of seven children and known as one of the famous twins: “Faye & Kaye!”

Faye attended elementary and secondary schools in both North and South Carolina, and upon graduating from Dillon High School, she (and her sister Kaye) entered the US Department of Labor’s education and vocational training program, Job Corps.  After completing the Clerical Program, Faye obtained employment with Amtrak.  Her career spanned multiple departments throughout her lengthy tenure, and ironically, her 37th anniversary with the company fell on the same date as her transition,

Aunt Faye, as she was affectionately called, showered her unending love onto everyone’s children.  Although she often shared her time, finances, and free babysitting services, Faye was best known for the warm hugs that put all the babies into a deep sleep!  Yes, Faye genuinely loved and impacted the lives of the children she encountered, including her nieces & nephews, and the children of co-workers, neighbors, and her Greater CBT church family.

Faye would also drop everything to help her family.  When there was a need, you never had to ask because she wasted no time jumping in.  Down through the years, Faye traveled throughout the country, from New York, to Florida, to Alaska to lend a helping hand and share a good laugh with her family.

As a child, Faye was a member of New Canaan AME Church in Dillon, South Carolina.  In the late 1990’s, she became a member of Greater Community Bible Tabernacle, in Philadelphia, PA, where Bishop Stacey W. Roberts is Senior Pastor.  Faye LOVED HER CHURCH and participated in multiple ministries including the Finance Team, Greeters, and Judah Dance Ministry (for only a few months – long enough for Faye to attend a few rehearsals then notify the choreographer that her body was not going to twist and move the way he expected it to😊).

On June 15, 2016, Faye married the love of her life and long-time friend of 32 years, Donald R. Lewis.  They traveled and shared many great times together, including her last vacation to Las Vegas and a helicopter ride into the Grand Canyon, just a few months ago.

Except for the annual Summers-Lewis cookout (when Faye served as Don’s sous-chef), she was not fond of cooking.  However, no one can deny that she was a wonderful Baker!  Faye supplied neighbors, family members, friends, and Amtrak associates with a variety of baked-goods, including her very popular lemon pound cake.

Faye was a loving wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and church family.
