Eloise Taylor Truelove

August 7, 1943 - September 9, 2023

Eloise Taylor Truelove passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 80 years of age. Born in Trenton, NJ, the daughter of William Hickey Taylor and Janice Aline Cole Taylor, and sister to Lee Nolan. She had graduated from Ewing High in 1961 where she excelled in theater, art, music, dance, and athletics.

While born and schooled in New Jersey, she spent most of her time in Bristol Borough with her maternal grandparents, Albert Cole, and Helen Florence Watts Cole, whom she adored. She spent many happy days with them at their home at Washington and Wood Streets by the little grocery store they ran next door. Later, the whole family enjoyed visits to the Washington Street house when ‘Nanny’ (Helen) and ‘Grammy’ (Janice) lived there together after Albert’s passing. Both buildings still stand today.

Ellie lived in New York City for a time and shared exciting tales of her adventures there which included a stint as a coat check girl at the famous Peppermint Lounge. She had an impeccable eye for color and enjoyed fashion, painting, and home decor. She built a lovely home in Bristol Borough with her treasured husband, Victor.

She loved animals, especially horses, movies, and always rooted for the underdog. She had many friends, was fiercely intelligent, very funny, and was kind to everyone she met. When they were small, Ellie read stories to her children acting out all the voices in character. She often invented games for them to play together. She could always be counted on to help the kids with an inventive Halloween costume or art project.

Ever our comedienne, she sometimes teased the kids asking to be called “Perfect Sweetie Dear” or “Mommles” when she was feeling particularly playful.

Ellie was the secretary at Bristol United Methodist Church in the 1980s and was active with the Bristol Cultural & Historical Foundation serving as secretary. She has been a member of Saint James Episcopal Church since 2016.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 54 years, Victor Truelove, and by her children, Thomas, Frank, and Heather Truelove. Mrs. Truelove is also survived by her sister, Lee Nolan, and her family, and by her life-long best friend, Lorraine Campanile Levine Metzgar.

Funeral Services will be held at St. James The Greater Episcopal Church in Bristol Borough on Friday, September 22nd, at 11:30 A.M. under the direction of Wade Funeral Home.

The family asks that you consider watching one of her favorite movies, “Auntie Mame (1958)” in her honor when the spirit moves you. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her name to South Jersey Horse Rescue, 5745 Pleasant Mills Road, Egg Harbor City, NJ 08215.
