Arthur A. Cammarota passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. He was 97. Born in Salerno, Italy, he was a Bristol Borough resident for many years. Arthur was a decorated U.S. Army Veteran joining the Army in 1942 at age 17. Basic training brought young Arthur to Paris, Texas and soon after he boarded the S.S. Cristobal along with 2,300 troops that sailed to Weymouth, England. In the early morning of June 6, 1944, Arthur and his crew made the 10-hour journey to the beaches of Normandy where his crew stormed Utah Beach for the D-Day Invasion. He would eventually participate in the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. He also fought battles in Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe, and he received the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars. Prior to retirement, he was employed as an electrician for 40 years at Holmes Alarms in Philadelphia. Arthur enjoyed surf fishing, hunting, traveling, and fine dining while on his many trips to Europe and the Caribbean. Arthur was truly a generational man, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Husband of the late Elizabeth (nee LaRegina) Cammarota, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Bill Elentrio, two granddaughters, Sharon Light, and her husband, Chris, and Nicole Cohn, and her husband, Jeff, and his three great-grandchildren, Christopher, Luca, and Cameron. He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine "Rena" Simonson.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 9:15AM at the Wade Funeral Home, 1002 Radcliffe Street, Bristol Borough. Friends may call 8:15AM-9:15AM at the Funeral Home. Interment to follow at 10:30AM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center, in Brigantine, New Jersey 08203.
