Anthony D. DiMaio
Anthony D. DiMaio passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 15, 2021. He was 87 years young. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Vita (nee Mandella) DiMaio. He was raised in Brooklyn, NY, until the time he stumbled upon Bristol Borough. While deciding to remain in Bristol, he met his wife Jean and married her and lived there for over 50 years. During this time, Anthony was busy raising his family in the homes that he built in Bristol and Ocean View, DE.
Anthony was employed as a carpenter with Levitt and Sons, framing and building many of the homes that are still standing today. Once Levitt and Sons moved out of the area, he became a bridge painter where he was a union steward working for American Bridge Company. While working on many local bridges, family and friends would beep and wave hello when passing by. Once retired, he lived in Ocean View, DE, for the last 21 years.
Anthony lived a lot of life in his 87 years doing the things he loved the most such as fishing, crabbing, clamming, boating, hunting, gardening, visiting the Italian Market, and watching his beloved New York Yankees. Some of the greatest joy in his life was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and many friends.
Husband of the late Virginia (nee Liberatore) DiMaio, he is survived by his loving children, Vita Thorpe (Jeff), Josephine DiMaio-Cleary (Jim), Louis DiMaio (Dawn), and Gina DiMaio (Mike). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren, James and Justin Cleary, Ciarra Thorpe, and Tyler Xavier Thorpe. He is survived by one brother Salvatore DiMaio (Michael Ann) and many nieces and nephews.
