Robert J. Simkins

Robert J. Simkins passed away on January 11, 2016 at his home in Levittown, Pa. Born in 1926 in Burlington, New Jersey, he was son of the late Aubrey L. and Marguerite Erkert Simkins. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Aubrey C. and Gerda Simkins. At the age of 16 he graduated from Wilbur Watts High School, Class of 1943 and at 18, was drafted into the U.S.Army. He graduated from the University of Miami, Class of 1953. He served the Department of the Army for 5 decades, both in the Military and as a Civilian with the Mac unit at McGuire AFB in New Jersey. A lover of brass instruments and big band music, Bob was a trumpet player, performing with the Jersey Joes, Reilly Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps, Old Comrades Concert Band and the Tri-County Band of Feasterville. In his retirement, Bob enjoyed International travel, gardening, tree cultivation, driving his 1963 Corvair convertible and dancing many fun filled nights at the Marroe Inn in Trenton.

Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years, Eleanor (nee Viviani) Simkins and his son, Robert Santi Simkins, his sister-in-law and husband, Elda and Don Broschard along with many special nieces, nephews, cousins, college pals, and WWII buddies, Lou of Arizona, Homer of Arkansas, Fred of New Jersey, Tom of Pennsylvania and his childhood friend of 85 years, Charles of Florida. The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care of Bob's visiting nurses, Sandy and Jeannette, and his hospice nurses, Betsy and Carol.

Relatives and friends are invited to his Life Celebration on Friday, January 15, 2016 from 10:30am until the time of his service at 12Noon at the Wade Funeral Home, 1002 Radcliffe Street, Bristol Borough. Interment at Washington Crossing National Cemetery will take place at a later date.
