Joseph "Pop" Alvarez passed away peacefully on Friday, February 15, 2019 at Statesman Nursing Home in Levittown. He was 98 1/2. Born in West Virginia, he was raised on the family farm in Donora, Pa, outside of Pittsburgh. He relocated to Levittown and resided there for the past 52 years. Pop served in WWII from 1941-1946 in the 1386th Army Airforce Base Unit, as a Military Police Officer, stationed in Iceland. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, the Victory Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon. Pops greatest enjoyments were the Pocono Mountains and his passion for raising birds. In his final 2 years of life, he enjoyed arguing with his nursing home friends and playing bingo for quarters.
Pop was married for 60 plus years and although losing his wife and son many years ago, he now rests beside them. His daughter, 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 10 1/2 great-great grandchildren survive Pop.
Funeral Services will be held privately under the direction of Wade Funeral Home, Bristol Borough.
