Hubert J. Downs

Hubert J. Downs passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Langhorne Gardens Nursing Home. He was 85. Born in Bristol, son of the late John and Ruth Downs, he was a Bristol Borough resident all of his life. Hubert was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in WWII and retired as a sergeant from the Bristol Borough Police Department, where he worked for 31 years. He was a member of the National Fraternal Order of Police, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Michael Dougherty Division, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Bucks Lodge No. 1169 and the Bristol Borough Adult Activity Center. Hubert was very generous to many charitable organizations, especially the Make a Wish Foundation and the Paralyzed Veterans. He will be missed by his many friends at McDonalds, who he enjoyed talking with regularly.

Predeceased by 2 brothers, Joseph and Michael Downs, his longtime companion, Ruth Schillinger and Ruth's daughter, Carol Ann Willard, he is survived by 3 nieces, Kathy Patterson, Kelly Ann Downs and Elaine Tabackin and 1 nephew, Joseph Downs, his companion Viola Shire and Ruth's daughters, Jeanne Sarbocca and Barbara Salerno and several great nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Friday, June 3, 2016, 10:00am at St. Mark Church, Bristol Borough. Interment, St. Mark Cemetery. Friends may call 8:30-9:45am at the Wade Funeral Home, 1002 Radcliffe Street, Bristol Borough.
