Alan Pierson Burton
Alan Pierson Burton, devoted and loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 with his family by his side. He was 88 years old. He was born in Tullytown, raised in Bristol, and was an original Levittown homeowner since 1957. He was a graduate of Bristol High class of 1947, where he played varsity basketball for the Bristol Bunnies. After high school, he enlisted in the Army for one year, and served five years in the reserves as part of the Army Photo Company. He worked briefly at Hunter-Wilson Distilling Co.; this is where he met his future wife Mary. In the late 1940’s, he started work in Burlington for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company as a part of the Elbow Lane repair team. He continued his career with the company and eventually retired as an engineer in the early 1990’s.
Alan loved sports his entire life. He enjoyed basketball in his youth, and in 1960’s he played on a bowling league for the Raymond Esso team. In the 1980’s, he became interested in running and for many years participated in multiple 10K races. Later in his life, he attended the Bucks County Senior games where he competed in multiple events. He also loved to ski; even in his eighties he attended multiple elder hostel ski trips to Park City, Utah. However, Alan’s favorite sport by far was tennis, he enjoyed playing for many years with his family and friends.
Predeceased by his wife, Mary Eileen Burton and his daughter, Teresa Burton, he is survived by 3 children, Joseph A. Burton and his wife, JoAnn of Fairless Hills, Pa., Johanna M. Nekoranik and her husband, Michael of Kitnersville, Pa and Aileen L. Spratt and her husband, Kazan of Philadelphia, Pa . He will be sadly missed by his 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 brother, Edward Burton and his wife, Judy. Mr. Burton was also predeceased by 1 brother, J.Donald Burton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass on Tuesday, June 19, 2018, 11:00am at St. Mark Church, 1025 Radcliffe Street, Bristol Borough, where friends may call from 10:00am until time of Mass. Interment, Our Lady of Grace Cemetery.
